The Possum, As I Will Forever Remember Him—RIP

Hey, Everybody—I wanted to take a minute to pass along some sad news. I received a call this morning from an Americana deejay in NYC, letting me know that one of my favorite singers/characters of all times, from my hometown in East Texas, died this morning: George Jones.  His passing is a marker of time.  Out with the old, in with the new.  I cherish the old.

It is beginning to boil here in Houston--getting ready for that blazing Texas heat that always hits us in May.  Lots of humidity and mosquitoes on the horizon, lots of mowing to do and peas to shell on the front porch, some good times and good music ahead, too.  I’ll be playing Big John’s Ice House here in Houston on May 11, a “true Texas ice house” that still exists “just around the way” . . .  As always—life goes on.

Y’all come!

The Possum, as I will forever remember him—RIP:

He Stopped Loving Her Today
