Nashville on the horizon – I’ll be there tomorrow (Saturday). Looking forward to another showing at the Commodore Lounge on West End, near Vanderbilt, on Sunday (February 10) at 7:30. Thanks to everybody who’s signed up and been emailing about it – see you soon!
Oh, happy day! My all-time favorite artist who ever lived, Sam “Lightnin’” Hopkins, has been finally recognized by the Grammys. Stopped reading the Houston Chronicle a long time ago, but noticed this headline today at a coffee house I frequent. Been a long time comin’. This is way overdue.

Lightnin’ almost never left Houston. Played the historic Third Ward, Dowling Street strip where the likes of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and Bobby Blue Bland performed when they were in town. They flew him to NYC to play Carnegie Hall, he influenced more rock ‘n’ roll guitarists than any other blues player, Rolling Stone named him in the top 100 guitarists of all times, and most of all – he did it HIS way:
This is the best of Lightnin’ in my opinion—hope you’ll check it out. Hope you see what I do in it. He is The Best:
