Hey, Everybody! I thought you might enjoy this little memento of my trip to Austin last week—a short video teaser by Gerry Olert , highlighting the Kinky Friedman & Friends showcase at Opa!, sponsored by The Man in Black Tequila company and hosted by Rowdy Tijmes. It was a cast of characters, including yours truly; my recent house guest Brian Molnar from Jersey; Jesse Dayton (like me, from Beaumont via Houston, now residing in Hollywood writing zombie songs); Little Jewford (a native Houstonian who’s the spitting image of Gene Wilder); former psychobilly rocker and current Sirius radio host, Mojo Nixon; and of course Kinky himself—all in about 3 minutes worth watching:

Here’s a bit about Kinky from Wikipedia: Richard S. "Kinky" Friedman (born November 1, 1944) is an American Texas country singer (from Chicago), songwriter, novelist, humorist, politician and former columnist for Texas Monthly who styles himself in the mold of popular American satirists Will Rogers and Mark Twain. He was one of two independent candidates in the 2006 election for the office of Governor of Texas. Receiving 12.6% of the vote, Friedman placed fourth in the six-person race.
And, as an extra bonus, I’m including a new music video link that I just received from a friend of mine in Nashville, a talented young man I shared a stage with last November—84 year old Jerry K. Green, who plays, sings, and tells amazing stories of his days on the Louisiana Hayride. No kidding! It's a video of his classic song, 'Tripod, the Three-Legged Dog' with excellent sound and some terrific vintage footage of Jerry! Jerry says, “I am trying to get “Tripod” found by some young artist(s) in any genre(s), who will record it in their style(s) and give it a chance to become a Hit, in order to reach and inspire the millions of people who are disabled as well as those who love people and pets who are disabled.” That would be me for one, and I hope that you, too, will take another three minutes to appreciate this unique and fun video that has a message worth passing along. It’s family-friendly, too, and I like that!
