Happy Valentine’s Day, Everybody! Just for the occasion, I’ve posted a picture of me and fellow Beaumont, Texas native, Johnny Winter, on his tour bus. I tell you what, I felt like a schoolgirl when I met Mr. Winter and saw him perform the other night. What a show – what a man! It must be love . . .
I’ve got a few more appearances here in Houston before I go to Nashville. I hope those of you in the Houston area will stop by on a Saturday and see me at Pizzitola’s BBQ near Shepherd and I-10. I’m usually there by about 1 p.m., and my friend Jimmy P and I will regale you ‘til around 2:30 or 3 o’clock. It’s a lot of fun, a small, family-owned, family-friendly place with that real-deal Texas feel and, of course, the BEST barbecue – even the New York Times said so just last year!
The first week in March, I’ll be traveling to Nashville for meetings at the ASCAP offices on Music Row AND playing The Billy Block Showcase, which is second only to The Grand Ole Opry and Midnight Jamboree as Nashville’s longest running LIVE radio show and concert series! Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to this trip . . .
Then, I’ll be on my way to Austin for another episode of SXSW. This year’s gonna beat all – I’ll be featured in a “Ladies of Texas Guitar Pull,” including Carolyn Wonderland, Carrie Rodriguez, Bonnie Bishop, Paula Nelson (Willie Nelson’s daughter), Marcia Ball, and Rosie Flores, and hosted by the inimitable Big Kev Ploghoft from NYC whose popular radio-thon will showcase the likes of The Flatlanders with Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, and Butch Hancock; Dale Watson; Two Tons of Steel; Sugar and the Hi-Lows; Ray Wylie Hubbard; and Junior Brown. This event was a great success last year, and people were talking about it all over town. I’m excited to be a part of it again in 2012 and wishing a heartfelt thanks to Big Kev for inviting me.
Many adventures on the horizon . . . many stories in the making. I’ll write more soon. In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful February day. Don’t forget to prune your roses, and tell someone you love ‘em. Y’all come!
