An Update from Palm Springs, CA

Hey, Everybody!  I’m relaxing here in Palm Springs, gazing out at the most gorgeous poolside mountain view, enjoying breakfast in bed and writing to you to say that I am having an absolutely incredible time.  I’ve been recording my new album with the amazing Ronnie King on his ranch in Thermal—about a half hour from here.  We traveled to Newport Beach where we stayed on a yacht for a couple of days—a first for me—spent an evening at the most amazing restaurant in Laguna Beach where we dined on gourmet food with a chef and a magazine publisher to the tunes of a terrific live band, then back to Newport where we went back into the studio to record the backing guitar parts with Alex Vo, a most talented and pleasant young man who cut layers of exquisite acoustic guitar and steel guitar parts on seven songs and high energy rockin’ electric guitars on another—all in only four hours!  I couldn’t be happier.  I am thrilled with the entire experience and most of all with these new, original songs, which are my best.  Ronnie King is an extraordinary producer, and I feel sure that you will agree when you hear this music!

In the meantime, I received exciting news from Houston.  My “brother from another mother,” Jimmy Pizzitola, and dear friend, Greg Henkel on his incredible viofiddle, will be standing in for me tonight at 9 at La Carafe in the downtown Market Square, doing “an evening of Glenna Bell”—what a cool concept!  I only wish I could be there, but I hope that you will be if you are in the Houston area.  I believe that it will be a real treat, and I am flattered.

There is so much more that I could say about my time here, but instead I will leave you with a couple of videos that I discovered after talking with Ronnie about his friends, The Offspring, my new favorite band that I wish I would have discovered sooner.  Their singer and primary songwriter, Dexter, has a Ph.D. and I am not surprised based on the level of creativity, wit, and versatility in his writing.  I literally laughed out loud all the way through “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)”—especially the ending—and was shocked and awed by the videographer’s powerful take on “Hit That,” a grim statement on modern day society, featuring Ronnie’s signature performance on key’s, which, in my opinion, really makes the song:

Y’all come!
