Happy Fourth of July Weekend, Everybody!

I’m still basking in the afterglow of my time on the East Coast.  Wait ‘til you hear the new songs that I recorded at the most amazing studio, tucked away in Tony Soprano’s hometown in NJ on the outskirts of NYC!

This place was magical – an old piano warehouse converted to a recording studio filled with gorgeous antiques and tapestries, luxurious couches, vintage guitars of all types, even a working (or playing) victrola, and the most incredible Steinway I’ve ever seen!

“What an unlikely spot to make my foray into the Blues,” I couldn’t help but thinking as I heard my voice resonating like never before—like a ghost from my distant heritage in the woods of East Texas via the Mississippi Delta taking shape, manifesting itself through the mic in that otherworldly place where I sang in that style for the first time on record with the powerful little East Coast backing band who really “got it.”

“I’m rollin’ and I’m tumblin’ . . . cried the whole night long . . .”

Now, I’m here in Houston, preparing to do some more recording at historic Sugar Hill Studios.  I’m quite excited about hearing a very special new original of mine come to fruition there on that fated Gold Star where so many hit songs have been born through the decades, dating back to the forties.

In the meantime, I wanted to let you know that I’ll be at Khon’s in Midtown this Saturday evening, so if you’re in Houston this holiday weekend, stop by for some songs and a nice, refreshing glass of wine, cold beer or a Coke on ice to beat the heat.  Like La Carafe, Khon’s is a casual, low-key, friendly, and convenient place to hear music and cross paths or meet up with friends.  I hope to see you there.

Y’all come!
