New Live Video--The Cougar Anthem!

Hey, Everybody! Andrew Karnavas, who produces the popular Houston Songwriter Series at Dean's Credit Clothing, Downtown, sent me this link the other day, tagged "wonderful performance." Very flattering, especially coming from Andrew, and I must say that I am quite happy to have captured a "perfect rendition" of my Cougar Anthem, as I imagine the song to be delivered--with all of the comic relief intended when I wrote it as a counterpoint to the tragic Southern Gothic Wedding Waltz for my album, Perfectly Legal: Songs of Sex, Love, and Murder. What I like most about this performance at Dean’s is its minimalism (just me and my guitar, Odetta) and the humor and good fun that we were able to deliver, for I see the song as a light-hearted parody of a social trend I was observing a few years ago when USA Today named the track one of the top ten singles of the week:

And for your listening pleasure, I have also posted that raucous recording at www.glennabell.com along with a picture of fellow songwriters, Mason Lankford, Tom Lynch, and me posing in front of Dean's on Main Street about a hundred years ago.

Thanks to everybody who came out to the Dean's showcase last month and to Khon's in Midtown last weekend. I enjoyed meeting those of you who have recently joined the newsletter group after discovering my music via KPFT radio in Houston.

I'll be back at historic La Carafe in Downtown Houston on Tuesday, February 17, and I will hope to see all you Houstonites there to celebrate another mild and pleasant Gulf Coast winter!

 Y'all come!
