Hey, Everybody!  It’s a beautiful morning in Houston.  The sun is shining, I can hear the birds singing, and I’m enjoying the day here in my comfortable old wood frame at the edge of downtown, basking in the afterglow of a new song that I just finished writing in time to be recorded in Nashville next month.

I’ll tell you more about that next time, but in the meantime, I’m looking forward to some good times here in Texas with another trip to Austin on the horizon and some Houston shows, too, kicking off downtown tonight at La Carafe—the “little place just around the way” “where everybody knows your name.”

I went downtown and stopped in late last Tuesday evening and was pleasantly reminded of the intro to Cheers.  La Carafe really does have that timeless, classic, warm and friendly feel, and the best night to check it out is on a Tuesday when Jimmy Pizzitola hosts the weekly singer-songwriter showcase that is always very good.

Tonight, I’m the featured guest, and I’ll be there sometime between 8:30-9 to set up and socialize.  Jimmy will open, as always, and then bring on Greg and his fiddle and me and my guitar around 9:30.  I’ll be playing my lovely little Martin (Loretta) while my baby Guild songbird (Odetta) is in the shop in Austin.  All of this will be quite relaxed, convivial and entertaining, a come-as-you-are reprieve from the hustle and bustle of daily life in the nation’s fourth largest city.

Summer nights are waning.  The downtown lights are calling . . . Live in the moment.

Y’all come!
