Hey, Everybody!  Many thanks to all of you who have written in with suggestions and encouragement over the last few days.  As promised, I am keeping you posted, and I have wonderful news.  Just as I predicted, I was able to befriend the little street dog, who now has a name, thanks to Big Kev who thought of calling her Pearl.  She is a beautiful pearly-grey white with a couple of light blond patches, and she was certainly a ‘pearl before swine’ on the streets of Texas, much like her namesake, the great Janis Joplin.

The vet said that she is an approximately 3-4 year old whose owners most likely used her to produce several litters of puppies to sell on the street and then dumped her when they were done with her.  Nobody will ever know for sure, but this is what they say happens around here.  Thank goodness, she is now living happily, frolicking daily in a big, grassy yard with shade trees, a dog house that she took to right away, a lawn chair that she uses as a hammock, and plenty of food, water, and love.  It’s quite amazing how she’s been able to adjust and transform so quickly.  In fact, some neighbors stopped by the other day and couldn’t even believe that she is the same dog that we all had seen on the street several weeks ago.  Now, there’s a story with a happy ending.

And tonight, I’m hosting the showcase at La Carafe in downtown Houston, featuring an artist I recently met in Nashville via New York City, Lani Ford:

They call her “the crazy Texan from New York,” and I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing her in Houston tonight.

Y’all come!
