Congratulations Are Due!

Hey, Everybody. I just want to write you this quick email to let you know that two friends of mine are being honored in Austin: John Pickering will receive a House Resolution at the Capitol for the work he did with Buddy Holly. John sang three-part harmonies on "Can't Get My Mind Off You," which is the third song on The Road Less Traveled. Here are a few lines from the press release: "On Monday, February 23, 2009, Texas State Senator Robert Duncan and the Texas Senators will honor the music and writing of Texas-born singers, songwriters, and authors John Pickering, Bob Lapham and the late Bill Pickering, members of the trio 'The Picks'. They are the primary backup singers for Buddy Holly and the Crickets. The reading of the Resolution will be at 1:30 in the Texas State Capital Building in Austin, TX." Griff Luneberg is the man behind the world-famous Cactus Cafe in Austin. He has made this venue all that it is today, and the Austin Chronicle has published a fascinating feature story, including quotes by Lyle Lovett, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Slaid Cleaves among others.
